Private alpha
palette.film is in private alpha. Access is invite-only and may change without notice. We may discontinue, gate, or rebuild the service at any time. If we do, we’ll give you a way to export your data first.
What the service is
A taste-profile interface trained on your Letterboxd export. You upload the .zip, we train a model on the films you’ve already rated, and we score the films you haven’t seen by what you’d probably rate them. It’s for personal use.
What's not allowed
Two things, both about commercial reuse:
- No commercial use of the predictions. Don’t resell them, don’t integrate them into a paid product, don’t wrap them in an API and charge for it. If you have a commercial use case, email us first.
- No reverse-engineering the model. The ensemble math and the per-user weight files are ours.
Your account
You’re responsible for three things:
- Keeping your password safe.
- The accuracy of the data you upload — if you upload someone else’s Letterboxd export, the model trains on the wrong person.
- Not impersonating other Letterboxd users. The .zip you upload should be your own export from your own account.
TMDB attribution
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. The film metadata, posters, and credits you see come from The Movie Database. We’re grateful for the open API and the volunteer community behind it. The fuller credits sit on /about.
Letterboxd note
We read data you exported yourself from Letterboxd. We are not affiliated with Letterboxd; this product is not endorsed or certified by Letterboxd. Letterboxd’s own terms still apply to your account there.
The model can be wrong
This is provided as-is. The model can be wrong. Predictions don’t guarantee anything about whether you’ll like a film. We don’t warrant uptime, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose. Don’t bet money on a 4.5★ prediction.
Limit of liability
Our total liability to you for anything related to the service is capped at the amount you paid for it. The service is currently free during the alpha — so to be honest about it, that cap is $0. If we ever charge for the service, the cap rises to whatever you actually paid in the twelve months before the claim.
Where disputes resolve
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA. Disputes are resolved in New York courts.
Changes to these terms
We may update this page. Material changes — anything that actually changes what you can or can’t do — get a notice on the dashboard the next time you log in. Minor edits (typos, clearer wording) just get the new last-updated date at the top.
